Hooray for the Arab Spring, yeah right.

So if you are keeping score it is now Islamists three potentially democratic mdoerate political transitions zero.  Well, did we expect something different?  I feel like I am among the minority who have openly challenged the idea that the Arab Spring was about liberalization and democratization.  The Arab Spring was about change, changing who ruled.  Glad to see that the participants did it in a more peaceful manner.  Glad to see that elections have been used to determine who will rule, but elections do not equal democracy and many an authoritarian/totalitarian government has come to power through open processes of election.  So I wait without much hope for some promise of liberalization and democratization.

and this article at ForeignPolicy.com adds to my thoughts regarding the "Arab Spring."
