Nationalism is Alive and Well

The Scots will be voting in 2014 on independence from Great Britain.  The Scots have the common language, customs and culture, and the shared perception of history that denotes a population group known as a nation, so sentient human beings do not doubt the Scottish nationality.  What will always remain questionable is giving such credence to the national identity that one places all political, social, and economic decisions within the context of the national identity and chooses this identity as the source of political identity and organization.  I am not saying that this type of behavior is wrong (being a Southerner I am particularly drawn to the righteousness of national identity).  I am saying (with some experience of my ancestors) this behavior can be dangerous--though I doubt if the English and other population groups of Britain will declare war on Scotland if the Scots vote for independence (particularly since Thatcher is no longer running the country).

Go Scotland!!!!
